EastEnders’ Shirley Carter (Linda Henry) is synonymous with her unique style – from her short, blonde hair to her usual cigarette – but now Hollywood A-lister Glenn Close is coming for her look.

After an image emerged of Glenn starring in new Netflix movie The Deliverance, EastEnders fans were left baffled by how alike the two stars look.

Glenn is an icon of the silver screen, having starred in such works as Fatal Attraction and Dangerous Liaisons, though it was her likeness to Shirley in her latest role that sent EastEnders fans into a spin.

Fans were quick to rush to Twitter/X to share their observations, much to the amusement of their followers.

User Shane hilariously quipped, ‘This is apparently Glenn Close in an upcoming Netflix movie but all I see is Shirley Carter from EastEnders,’ while Chris pointed out that, ‘Glenn Close IS Shirley Carter’.

Even users who aren’t regular EastEnders viewers admitted that they saw the likeness!

Shirley was last seen on our screens in December 2022, following the disappearance of son Mick Carter (Danny Dyer). Devastated Shirley packed up and left Albert Square with Lady Di in tow, and hasn’t been seen by viewers since.

It was announced that actress Linda Henry would be taking an extended break from the role, and fans have been desperate for her to return ever since.

When Dean Wicks (Matt Di Angelo) returned last year, he revealed to Linda Carter that Shirley had suffered a breakdown.

Since her first appearance on the BBC soap in 2006, our Shirl has been involved in some seriously dramatic storylines – including shooting Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) and trying to drown rapist son Dean.

Meanwhile, Shirley’s lookalike Glenn is starring as Morgan in The Deliverance, which is soon to hit Netflix in the United States.

The film is a supernatural horror thriller based on the possession of the Ammons family.
