Casualty star Barney Walsh takes the lead this week, as the show begins its latest box-set story arc. Cam finds himself caught up in the aftermath of an accident during a terrible storm, which leaves him in a quandary over his future as a nurse – as well as forcing him to face up to his past…
Hi, Barney! How did you feel when you heard that Cam was going to be right at the front of this story?
It’s an absolute honour, to be honest. To lead a box-set at Casualty is a dream come true, and to explore Cam’s character and journey through it has just been incredible. Growing up acting and going from audition to audition, all I’ve ever wanted is a storyline like this.
What do we know thus far about Cam’s past?
We don’t know much about Cam’s history and that’s the exciting thing about this story. As a character, Cam is a very shy, timid personality, he’s scared to get things wrong. He’s a very smart lad, but he messes up because he lacks that confidence. We really explore Cam’s past and the reasons why he is the way he is.
Cam hesitates before tragedy strikes. Does he feel guilty?
Cam hasn’t had to deal with losing a life so young before. He has a ton of guilt, but in him trying to exorcise that guilt and talk to people about it, he ends up causing more harm than he intended or ever wanted..
