EastEnders ‘confirms’ who saves Sonia Fowler – and it’s not Reiss Colwell

This article contains spoilers for tonight’s EastEnders, which has not yet aired on TV but is available to watch now on BBC iPlayer.

Reiss Colwell (Jonny Freeman) is heading the campaign to ‘Save Our Sonia’, though it may not be him who is set to come to Sonia Fowler’s (Natalie Cassidy) rescue.

Viewers will know that Sonia is currently behind bars, having been wrongly accused of murdering Reiss’ wife Debbie Colwell.

Debbie was in a coma for the later years of her life after suffering a stroke in the bath, and Sonia and Reiss regularly visited her at her care home.

However, when Reiss fell behind on the care home fees, he ended up smothering Debbie with a pillow, and has been trying to cover his tracks ever since.

Unfortunately for Sonia, Reiss had an alibi for the night of Debbie’s death, and all evidence ended up pointing to Sonia being the culprit.

Now, Reiss is on a mission to free her, without getting himself in trouble – though this may prove more difficult than he first thought.Sonia Fowler is arrested by police in The Vic in EastEnders

Reiss was left disappointed this week when a number of his neighbours refused to sign his petition to get Sonia out of prison.

To make matters worse, Teddy Mitchell (Roland Manookian) paid him a visit, requesting that he fiddle his accounts to make him look less wealthy, so his ex-wife wouldn’t be able to take everything from him.

Viewers will know that Reiss has been in debt to Teddy ever since he paid off the loan Reiss had taken from the much scarier Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden), but paying him back has been at the bottom of his priority list.

In tonight’s episode, Teddy did Reiss a deal, though it may not work out too well for him in the long run.

Teddy revealed that he knew a private investigator who was really good at uncovering seemingly lost evidence, like CCTV footage, and that in exchange for Reiss doing the work he needed, Teddy would put him on Sonia’s case.

While this was great news for Sonia, it didn’t look good for Reiss, who could be set to be uncovered as Debbie’s real killer.

As Teddy promised Reiss that the true culprit would be found, is Reiss on borrowed time?
