Bridgerton actress totally unrecognisable as she lands new role away from Netflix hit

Bridgerton star Bessie Carter is unrecognisable in new photos from her role in the upcoming UKTV show Outrageous. The Netflix actress, famed for her portrayal of Prudence Featherington in the hit series, will be playing one of six aristocratic sisters from the 1930s in the drama.

Bessie, 30, has a knack for period dramas, having previously starred as Evie Wilcox in BBC’s 2017 adaptation of Howards End. She also played Violet Woodhouse on ITV’s Beecham House in 2019.

Now, she’s set to take on the role of Nancy Mitford in a six-part series about the Mitford sisters, based on Mary Lovell’s definitive biography, The Mitford Girls.

Netflix fans are accustomed to seeing Bessie as the flamboyantly dressed Prudence Featherington, with her tight red curls styled in an elaborate updo. She’s often seen in bright greens, pinks and oranges alongside her sister Philippa (Harriet Cains).

However, new snaps from the filming of Outrageous reveal the actress smiling and in character, sporting a short, tight, curly bob – a classic cut from the 1930s.

She’s also pictured wearing a dark green velvet coat with a high neckline and a bright red lip, holding the clapperboard ahead of filming.

Firebird Pictures’ new drama Outrageous is set to bring the scandalous lives of the six Mitford sisters to our screens, depicting their refusal to conform to the expectations of British high society.

The series promises a deep dive into the sisters’ world of decadence and rebellion, as they grapple with family drama, public controversies, political radicalism, and personal tribulations, including love, loss, and even imprisonment.

The narrative will delve into how the Mitford family’s unconventional ways positioned them far ahead of their time.

Bessie will portray Nancy Mitford alongside Joanna Vanderham from The Control Room as Diana Mitford and Zoe Brough of Casualty fame as Jessica Mitford.

Joining the cast are Shannon Watson as Unity Mitford, seen in Say Nothing, Orla Hill as Deborah Mitford from Stonehouse, and Isobel Jesper Jones, who will appear in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, as Pamela Mitford.

The ensemble also includes Toby Regbo from Belgravia: The Next Chapter, Anna Chancellor of My Lady Jane, and James Purefoy from The Veil.

Fans will be excited to see Bessie reunite with her Bridgerton co-star Calam Lynch, who plays Theo Sharpe on the hit Netflix series.

Bessie expressed her excitement about the project, saying: “I am thrilled and honoured to have the opportunity to bring someone as brilliant as Nancy Mitford to life.”

She added: “She was one piece of a truly fascinating family of remarkable and unique women, and I can’t wait to tell their story.”

Outrageous is a UKTV and BritBox International Original commission and will air on UandDRAMA and U, as well as BritBox International in North America, in 2025.
