BBC Casualty viewers need ’48 hours to recover’ after Charlie exit scenes
BBC Casualty fans have broken down in tears as Derek Thompson’s last ever scenes as Charlie Fairhead were aired. The consultant’s life was left hanging in the balance after being stabbed on last week’s episode, with the fallout airing on March 16.
While fans were left scared the iconic character would be killed off, they were stunned to learn he survived the ordeal. The life-threatening incident ultimately led to Charlie deciding to retire from the hospital, marking the end of an era.
He said: “I thought I was a goner,” before adding: “I’m going to retire.” Taking to Twitter/X, fans reacted to the sombre scenes and bittersweet exit for the long-running character, who made his debut on the show decades ago.
“Wow what an emotional episode so happy Charlie didnt get killed off & got the happy ending he deserve,” one social media user typed. A second wrote: “What a lovely farewell to Charlie and Derek Thompson. I had a wee cry.”
