Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) turns his attention to a new suspect in the hunt to catch Joel Deering’s (Calum Lill) killer in Coronation Street next week – and it’s a seriously unexpected person.
Earlier this month, the evil abuser’s body was found in a nearby river after escaping justice for his heinous crimes.
The police later established it was murder after his postmortem revealed he was hit over the head with heavy weapon – likely a crowbar – before his body was dumped.
Police officer Kit has been on the case and first looked at Mason Radcliffe (Luca Toolan) as a suspect when he caught him disposing of a crowbar behind the factory.
But in scenes to air next week, his suspicions of Joel’s ex-fiancée Dee-Dee Bailey (Channique Sterling-Brown) start to grow.
As fans know, Dee-Dee, DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) and one of Joel’s victims Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton) were determined to bring him down in the weeks before his death, as they sought to find enough evidence to finally bring charges against him.
As Joel’s funeral looms next week, Kit is utterly unconvinced as he listens in on Dee-Dee talking to Joel’s dad Gus about going to the ceremony as she believes in forgiveness.
But could she really have killed her evil ex?
‘Kit’s priority is to get down to the bottom of who killed Joel,’ actor Jacob Roberts recently explained. ‘He knows someone is lying, everyone is acting shifty on the street and there’s a few potential culprits.
‘In a way, Kit is glad Joel is dead, but he’s equally gutted that he never got to bring him to justice and see him rot in jail.
‘I think he’s switched now and it gives him another chance to actually find and catch the culprit rather than someone dying.’
He added: ‘Kit wants to see someone through the justice system. He’s put all of this work into Joel and for him to die at the end of it is a bit of a kick to the teeth for Kit, Swain and everyone else who has been involved in the case so now he’s got to put all of his time and energy into who killed Joel to try and make up for that.’
Meanwhile next week, Dee-Dee starts to have second thoughts after agreeing to let Lauren move in with her, along with her baby son Frankie, who is finally ready to be discharged from the hospital.
When Lauren’s social worker calls at the flat for a chat, Dee-Dee finds an old love note from Joel in the cupboard as she’s making tea and rushes out in a state of upset.
Will Lauren and Frankie still have a place to call home?
