Virgin River is set to return with Season 6 soon! Netflix confirmed that all 10 episodes of Virgin River Season 6 will drop on Thursday, December 19, 2024. What’s in store for Season 6? Basically, there’s going to be plenty of drama and a few surprises, too.
Netflix’s official logline for Virgin River Season 6 explains: “Against the backdrop of Mel and Jack’s romantic spring wedding season, this sixth installment promises fresh twists and turns, escalating love triangles, delightful wedding drama, as well as uncovered secrets from Mel’s father’s past which will transport us to the magic and mystique of Virgin River in the 1970s.”
According to Tudum, the cast includes Alexandra Breckenridge (Mel), Martin Henderson (Jack), Tim Matheson (Doc), Annette O’Toole (Hope), Colin Lawrence (Preacher), Benjamin Hollingsworth (Brady), Zibby Allen (Brie), Sarah Dugdale (Lizzie), Marco Grazzini (Mike), Mark Ghanime (Cameron), Kai Bradbury (Denny), and Kandyse McClure (Kaia).
Jessica Rothe of Happy Death Day and Callum Kerr from One Piece will play a young Sarah and Everett (Mel’s parents), “as they meet and fall in love in the 1970s.”
According to Tudum, “Seen in flashbacks mostly set in or around ’72, Sarah is a witty free spirit from the big city with an ardent passion for activism who’s trying to avoid the conventional and traditional life of a young woman. Always up for an adventure, she can’t help chasing an instant spark with a handsome musician who might just be her star-crossed soulmate.”
Everett is described as “a handsome and freewheeling singer-songwriter with a poet’s soul,” according to Tudum. “One day he’ll pursue his dreams of the stage, but for now, he’s skimming through life in a VW van, until a chance meeting with a beautiful hitchhiker may just show him there’s more to life than he ever thought possible.”
Showrunner Patrick Shawn Smith told Tudum that the focus of Season 6 is on Mel and Jack’s wedding. “We’re trying to hit all the milestones of the pre-wedding planning, the bachelor and bachelorette parties, the rehearsal dinner,” he shared.
Virgin River Season 6 begins in the months following Season 5’s Christmas-themed episodes. Smith said the new season takes place “deeper into springtime.” He noted, “Mel and Jack will advance on their path to parenthood while also turning Lilly’s (Lynda Boyd) farm into their ultimate dream home.”
Smith also said there will be “new directions” for some characters. “Brady will be volunteering at the Virgin River fire station under Fire Chief Kaia, who is pulled into Preacher’s past sins,” he explained. “Also this season we’ll be surprised by some returning favorites from the past.”
The showrunner added, “The big new mystery character this season is Mel’s biological father Everett Reid, who is carrying a long-held secret.”
