WHEELED OUT Casualty taken off air for next TWO WEEKS as sport causes chaos for BBC medical drama

CASUALTY viewers will be facing disruption in the next few weeks due to a show schedule shake-up.

The long-running BBC medical drama – which began in 1986 – has, for most of its existence, aired new episodes on Saturday nights.

However, the show will be off viewers’ screens on June 29 and July 6.

It comes amid extensive evening sports coverage, including the ongoing UEFA Euros 2024.

On June 29, Casualty has been replaced with reporting of the football tournament airing from 4.30pm until 10.10pm.

Other shows impacted by schedule changes include EastEnders, which has seen all of this week’s episodes pushed back by one day.

On Tuesday, Emmerdale was taken off air while ITV covered the England vs Slovenia game.

Another major sports event is also making a return as Wimbledon will run from July 1 until July 14.

As for Casualty, the show has just launched a 12-part series called Storm Damage, which sees Cam (Barney Walsh) at the centre of trouble.

A hard-hitting recent storyline saw paramedic Teddy Gowan (Milo Clarke) become the victim of a sexual assault while on duty.

Teddy and colleague Iain Dean (Michael Stephenson) were called out to a hen party, which is where the assault took place.

Later, Teddy was left horrified to discover a video of the incident had been posted online.

Although it was later deleted – much to Teddy’s relief – he was traumatised about his ordeal being made public.

Another major plot line featured an anonymous staff whistleblower who contributed to a documentary which revealed failings in the ED.

Rash (Neet Mohan) fell under suspicion but eventually, nurse Rida Amaan (Sarah Seggari) was unveiled as the mystery person.

Elsewhere, longest-serving character Dylan Keogh (William Beck) sought to expose clinical lead Patrick Onley (Jamie Glover).

This followed Patrick’s announcement that there was to be a board review following an increase in serious patient incidents, as he instructed the team to be extra vigilant.

Dylan and Stevie (Elinor Lawless) were suspicious and in agreement that Patrick was covering for himself by blaming the team.

In scenes aired on June 8, Patrick seemingly exited the programme for good.

Casualty airs on Saturday nights on BBC One and now streams first on BBC iPlayer.
