Heartbreak as major Coronation Street couple are set to be evicted after years

Chesney Brown (Sam Aston) and Gemma Winter-Brown (Dolly-Rose Campbell) have been dealt a devastating blow in Coronation Street after being told they’re being evicted.

The couple’s financial woes have been at the centre of storylines in the ITV soap ever since they found out that Gemma was pregnant with quadruplets in 2019.

Alongside Chesney’s eldest son Joseph (William Flanagan) and Gemma’s mum Bernie Winter (Jane Hazlegrove), the family have squeezed themselves into the two-up two-down terraced property for years.

In the last year we’ve seen their situation gradually worsen, struggling to buy basic necessities such as food and clothes for the children.

That’s when Joseph’s domineering maternal grandmother Linda Hancock (Jacqueline Leonard) stepped in from Portugal – splashing the cash and insisting he was enrolled in posh private school Oakhill.

She even bought the Winter-Brown clan a huge (and we mean, gigantic) American style fridge-freezer that has been plonked in the corner of their living room.

Across this week we’ve seen Chesney plead with his landlord to fix the boiler after it broke.

The whole family had to shower next door at Bernie’s boyfriend Dev Alahan’s (Jimmi Harkishin) house, but that proved to be the least of their worries…Chesney looks into a car in Coronation Street

In tonight’s (21st June) episode, Gemma discussed her woes in the cafe when solicitor Dee-Dee Bailey (Channique Sterling-Brown) offered her some free advice concerning her tenancy rights.

Rushing home to tell Chesney, the landlord arrived with an engineer to sort their situation out – and to hand them an eviction notice.

Devastated by the realisation they could be made homeless, Dee-Dee informed the family that unfortunately their home-owner was well within his rights and they should start looking for another place to live.

To make matters worse, Joseph was dropped home from school by an Oakhill mum, who backed up his claims that Ches was owner of a ‘catering empire’ – and not just a kebab shop manager.

Convinced his son was embarrassed by their monetary problems, he and Gemma continued to worry about how best to support themselves moving forward.

Will they be able to stay at No. 5?
