CORONATION Street fans have shared their thoughts about what’s ahead for the Platt family ahead of a major departure.
Show icon Helen Worth – who has played Gail Platt for an incredible 50 years, recently announced she would be leaving the ITV soap.
There has been speculation that Sue Nicholls – who plays Gail’s mother Audrey – could soon follow her on-screen daughter out of the soap
As the lynchpin of the family for so many years, fans have naturally wondered what will become of Gail’s remaining relatives once she’s gone.
At the moment, Gail’s extended family on the street includes her mother, three grown-up children and multiple grandchildren.
Taking to Reddit, fans suggested possible outcomes for the likes of David, Audrey, Sarah, Bethany and Nick.
One wrote: “With Gail leaving, and Audrey probably not too far behind imo, what will happen to the Platts?
“I’m not worrying about them dying out, they’ve got loads of kids, I’m talking about their dynamic.
“I fear that they will feel too separated from each other. They need a core figure unifying them.
“Maybe they could bring Martin and his new family in? He was a parental figure to all three Platt kids, so they could have an older central figure there?”
Another remarked: “I think Audrey could be instrumental in keeping them together. Gail will be no longer in the house (her bedroom is on the ground floor).
“I reckon Audrey could end up a cause for concern like Ken currently is, and could move out of Grasmere Drive and move in with David, Shona and the kids and take up Gail’s bedroom (ground floor is ideal for her age range).
“The grandkids and older great grandkids (ie Max and Bethany) could take it in turns to care for her.”
Meanwhile, a third viewer demanded: “David is overdue a proper storyline, he is one of my favourite characters in the show!”
Earlier this month, actress Helen Worth, 73, shared an emotional statement as she announced her Corrie departure after half a century playing Gail.
The star said: “This year felt like the perfect time to leave the show after celebrating 50 years in the most wonderful job on the most wonderful street in the world.
“I made the decision at the start of the year and spoke to the producers who were very kind and understanding.

The beloved British soap has been captivating audiences for decades.
“I have been truly blessed to have been given the most incredible scripts week in week out, and to have worked with fantastic actors, directors and a brilliant crew.
“The past 50 years have flown by and I don’t think the fact that I am leaving has quite sunk in yet.”
Will the Platt family fall apart once Gail’s guiding hand is no longer around?
